Deskscape

Handcrafted desktop organizer built to study form and order

Deskscape is a hand built desktop organizer created in RISD Design Principles I. With only hand tools, the project focuses on proportion, spacing, and simple geometric structure to turn everyday clutter into a clear layout. The result is a quiet object that demonstrates foundational design thinking through restraint, craft, and functional clarity.

Chaos in the creative workspace.

Unorganized tools and clutter disrupt the flow of foundational design work.

Deskscape Context

Every tool needs a home. Deskscape explores how assigning specific geometric spaces to pencils, adhesives, and electronics can transform a cluttered surface into an efficient, inspiring landscape for work.

Objective

Designing a handcrafted storage solution that studies the relationship between form, proportion, and order through strict geometric restraint.

Finding Homes for Tools

The process began with rigorous sketching to test configurations for a variety of studio tools. The challenge was to create a modular language that felt unified while providing specialized protection and accessibility for delicate instruments.

Built by Hand

Leveraging traditional hand tools, the project emphasized the importance of precision at every joint. This approach forced a deeper understanding of material behavior and the tactile relationship between the user and the object.
