LifeAID®

Multi-Rechargeable Auto-Injector is a portable, 3-cylinder reusable device designed to deliver rapid, life-saving doses of naloxone, glucagon, or epinephrine in emergencies. LifeAID features three rechargeable pharmaceutical cartridges, offering flexible dosing options—including loading all three cartridges with the same medication—so that first responders can treat multiple critical cases in mass casualty events. LifeAID charges up for three consecutive shots in just 10 seconds, enabling a swift and effective response in life-threatening scenarios.

Project Overview

This research project involved an in-depth exploration of emergency medicine, aiming to develop a more effective alternative to currently available auto-injectors. The process included extensive research and user-centered design methodologies, such as conducting interviews with professionals in the medical field, military personnel, and emergency responders. These insights shaped the design to meet the specific needs of the target users.

Target Audience

"LifeAID® is a fully portable, versatile, and reusable emergency medical device tailored for professionals in high-pressure environments, including the DOH/DOJ/DHS/DOD (Department of Health, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Defense), fire departments, ambulance services, and public health organizations."

LifeAID can efficiently administer epinephrine (1mg) and provide the ability to re-dose, as current guidelines recommend 1 mg of epinephrine every 3–5 minutes during cardiac arrest. With its reusable design and rapid response capabilities, LifeAID addresses critical medical needs while reducing environmental impact. This innovative auto-injector replaces traditional single-use, spring-loaded epinephrine pens with a cutting-edge air-compressing chamber unit. Using compressed air for precise medication delivery, LifeAID eliminates the limitations of single-use injectors, providing multiple doses from its 3-cylinder, rechargeable system. LifeAID can be loaded with cartridges for naloxone, glucagon, and epinephrine, or other medications as needed, and can be recharged in under 10 seconds. LifeAID’s novel design ensures that users have fast access to life-saving medications without contributing to medical waste, while ensuring timely and effective treatment in emergencies like anaphylaxis, opioid overdoses, and cardiac arrest.
